Inclusion
Inclusion is the practice of making sure that everyone, regardless of their background, abilities, identity or circumstances, feels welcomed, valued, and able to participate fully. It means removing barriers and creating environments where all individuals have equal access to opportunities, resources, and a sense of belonging.
Our school has achieved the Inclusion Quality Mark - Centre of Excellence Award. This award recognises schools that have achieved the Inclusive School Award and continue to demonstrate exemplary practice in inclusion.
We have demonstrated that we go beyond our own setting to influence and inspire others, sharing best practice in inclusive teaching strategies, mentoring colleagues, and engaging in national networks.
The award celebrates schools that see inclusion as a living, evolving process, embedding it in every aspect of teaching, leadership, and community engagement.
Zones of Regulation
At our school, children’s emotional well-being is supported through the use of The Zones of Regulation and the Colour Monster stories. From Pre-School to Key Stage One, children learn to recognise and understand a range of emotions, building gradually from four core feelings (happy, sad, angry and fear) to include calm and love when they are in Key Stage One. Staff across the school model emotional awareness using the Colour Monsters, helping children talk about how they and others are feeling. Children also learn how emotions can affect their bodies and are taught simple strategies, such as breathing exercises and talking to a trusted adult, to help them manage their feelings with confidence.
